Thank you very much, Councilman O'Neill, and your staff for inviting me to be here this morning. As a member of clergy, when we look to offer prayers and blessings, we look to offer it in the most relevant way, and in Philadelphia at this point, I would say that the first and foremost group in Philadelphia that needs our prayers is the Philadelphia Phillies. So that will be my first prayer here this morning. But on a more serious note, there are so many people here in Philadelphia that make our city such a wonderful place to be, and I would like to recognize and offer prayers for the Police and Fire Departments, people who keep us safe and healthy and well, as well as the residents and the businesses, that they should be prosperous and healthy and safe. But I would say that my agenda to offer a prayer this morning is right here at City Council, all of our members and the people associated with it. You're a distinguished group of people who have taken significant responsibility for our city, without getting any recognition for it. And thank you very much for what you do. You should be able to continue your wonderful work. There's a text, a beautiful text, in the Jewish prayers that actually asks that God reward specially the people who work on behalf of the community, and I remember once asking a teacher of mine, why is it that God is going to reward specifically people working on behalf of the community? What about the rest of us? And he said a little bit in gest, he said that people who work for the community get no recognition and no thanks for all of the wonderful work that they do. So if God is not going to reward them, nobody will. should be well and you should be able to continue your wonderful work. Thank you very much. Thank you for having me here this morning.

Thank you very much, Mr. President. This is a resolution recognizing and honoring and celebrating the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University for its invaluable contributions to the environmental and natural sciences as the oldest natural history museum in the nation - on the occasion of the Academy's 200th Anniversary: Founded in 1812 and now here we are in 2012.
Whereas, in 1812, seven amateur naturalists founded the Academy of Natural Sciences for, quote, "the encouragement and cultivation of the sciences, and the advancement of useful learning," end of quote; and Whereas, in the year 2012, the Academy of Natural Sciences completes its 200th year and begins its third century as the oldest natural history museum in the nation; and
Whereas, the Academy of Natural Sciences is internationally known for its collection of over 18 million specimens, including the first nearly complete dinosaur skeleton, Thomas Jefferson's fossil collection, specimens from the Lewis and Clark Expedition, and the magnificent original wildlife drawings of John Audubon; and
Whereas, the Academy of Natural Sciences' members have included nine Nobel Laureates, two United States presidents, and the current Dalai Lama; and
Whereas, the Academy of Natural Sciences is not just a repository of historical artifacts, but an ongoing research center with scientists studying global warming in Mongolia, avian-flu carriers in Vietnam, and fossils from Pennsylvania to Patagonia - as well as many other important subjects in many other places that will result in knowledge useful in understanding the past, dealing with the present, and planning for the future; and
Whereas, in the year 2011, the Academy of Natural Sciences merged with Drexel University to develop the synergy of Academy researchers and collections with Drexel's educators and students; and Whereas, the City of Philadelphia looks forward to yet another century of excellent scientific leadership from the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University; now, therefore
Be it resolved, by the Council of the City of Philadelphia, that it hereby recognizes, honors and celebrates the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University for its invaluable contributions to the as the oldest natural history museum in the nation - on the occasion of the Academy's 200th Anniversary: From 1812 to 2012.
Further resolved, that an engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, further evidencing the sincere admiration and gratitude of this legislative body. Me and my kids, we go to the Academy and it's -- there's so many great treasures in Philadelphia, and 200 years, fantastic institution. We really have to get everybody out to see it. And congratulations on 200 excellent years. (Applause.)

President Clarke and distinguished members of the City Council and ladies and gentlemen, it is a distinct honor and privilege to accept this resolution on behalf of the Academy of Natural Sciences. an institution that is 200 years old, you know that each of us is playing a very little piece of history with the institution, just like all of you are serving our community in the same manner. So I want you to know how grateful we are for this recognition. I'd like to echo Councilman Oh's statement, come on down, please, and enjoy this Academy, especially in our bicentennial year. This is a very sad time for us who have been working with PGW, because we are losing two fine employees who have served the company very well, although we have in their stead new leadership, which will do a fine job and have proven to do a fine job, but you hate to see employees who have given many, many years of service, quality service, to the community. So this morning I am honored to present this resolution honoring Joseph R. Bogdonavage for his achievement in service to the City of Philadelphia and its citizens as Interim Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Philadelphia Gas Works. Whereas, in 1972, Joseph R. B, as we called him, received a Bachelor's in Accounting from Temple University and has over 38 years of diverse experience in finance with the Philadelphia Gas Works ("PGW"); and Whereas
In January 2011, Mr. Joe B, affectionately called, was appointed as Interim Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and, in the position, he was responsible for PGW's Operating and Capital Budget, Accounting and Reporting, Treasury functions; and Whereas, prior to his appointment, Mr. B served as Senior Vice President of Finance and held previous positions, including Director, Manager, Supervisor in the Budget and Finance Forecasting Department, Accounting Assistant Supervisor and Budget Analyst; and Whereas Mr. B is a member of the American Gas Association's Financial Energy Association of Pennsylvania Finance Committee; now, therefore, be it

Chairwoman Tasco, it's been an honor, privilege to serve the ratepayers and citizens of Philadelphia for my 38-plus years, and without a few names just to mention, my wife Anne, my wonderful assistant Denise, also the Gas Commission; in particular, Janet Parrish, some of my peers at the company, Joe Golden, Craig White and others, I would not be standing here today, and I really appreciate the effort that everyone has put forward, and I hope everyone has a wonderful rest of their lives as I am moving into a new part of mine. It's been an honor and a privilege to serve the City of Philadelphia. Thank you very much. (Applause.)
And second we have another fine young man who is go to retirement. His wife was going to kill him if he hadn't retired, and we held on to him as long as we could, because he provided wonderful service to PGW, and he worked very closely with our staff at the Gas Commission. So we're happy this morning to be able to say that we present this resolution honoring Randall J. Gyory for his achievements and service to the City of Philadelphia and its citizens as Interim Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Philadelphia Gas Works. Whereas, Randall J. Gyory received a BS Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and, in 1980, he joined the Philadelphia Gas Works ("PGW") and has spent the majority of his PGW career in the Distribution Department where he held several positions in Maintenance, Construction, Engineering; and Whereas, in January 2011, Mr. Gyory was appointed as Interim Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for PGW, and in these positions, he was responsible for Field Operations, Supply Chain, Customer Affairs, Gas Management, Marketing, Corporate Communications, and Corporate Preparedness; and Whereas, prior to his appointment, Mr. Gyory served as Senior Vice President for Operations and Customer Affairs, Vice President of Customer Affairs, and Manager of the Program Management Office; and
Whereas, during Mr. Gyory's tenure as Manager, he led a team of functional and business analysts in correcting and improving PGW's billing system software issues associated with the transition from their legacy billing system to a client server system; and Whereas, Mr. Gyory's call around a call center operation that was underachieving, effectively reversing an order by the Pennsylvania Utilities Commission to outsource PGW's operation to obtain minimum acceptable standards; and Whereas, therefore, Mr. Gyory's leadership and diligence with his fellow employees, PGW's collection rate improved to an average over 96 percent during that last five years as compared to an historic collection rate of 92 percent for the previous ten years; and now, therefore, be it
Now, therefore, be it resolved, that the Council of the City of Philadelphia, we hereby honor Randall J. Gyory for his hard work, accomplishments and fine service to PGW customers and to the citizens of Philadelphia and wish him much success in his future endeavors. Mr. President, members of Council, Councilwoman Tasco, I'd like to thank you. This is a humbling opportunity. I just came into work and did my job every day. I had a job to do. I loved doing my job. I loved working with the people. I loved Philadelphia. I'd like to specifically thank Janet Parrish for all the support of the Commission, obviously Councilwoman Tasco, Craig White and all my co-workers. It's been a pleasure, and it's good to be at home. That was unexpected, Council President. I can't say enough about these two gentlemen. I've worked with them for over 32 years, and they've done an outstanding job for the Philadelphia Gas Works, and they are going to be sorely missed. As the Chairwoman said, we have a number of other 30-some-year employees that are stepping in and doing a great job in their absence, but I can't thank them enough for the great work they did way in which they approach difficult problems over at PGW. And, again, I want to thank them personally. And I'm so happy that their families are here, and we certainly want Anne and Joe's wife and daughter -- or Randy's wife and daughter to come up here for some future pictures. Thank you very much.
