Madam President, I was handed a press release from Mayor's Office of Communications. The says the Mayor Street and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Building and Construction Trades Council AFL-CIO announced today that 100 new union apprenticeships positions will be filled by minorities. It says Mayor Street stood with the City's building union leaders to announce that over the next year -- the next year, not now -100 new apprenticeship positions will filled by minority workers who have graduated from the Diversity Apprenticeship Program, DAP. We have testimony in this Council over the last seven months in which we have over 125 or so people who already have graduated from the apprenticeship programs. And they're waiting for phone calls. And we have testimony here that those individuals have not gotten those phone calls. And we have testimony that ther are people that gone through that the percentages of those that go through the apprenticeship program never make it to journeyman. I'd like to find out what happened to those individuals that are already out there that have gone through this process, the 100 or so that are not being employed and are not being called? I recognize and I appreciate that they have heard what we've been saying in this Council over the last year years, but let's see what happens. And I bet you extra dollars that of the hundred over the next year very few make it through to journeyman. Promises, promises, promises, all during a political year. Thank you.
You're welcome. The Chair recognizes Councilman Kenney.
Thank you, Madam President. While I have the opportunity, I would like to declare that the Public Property Committee has a quorum and that the hearing will go on immediately following the Session. A quorum of the Public Property Committee is in place in the room right now so we won't have to waist any time. Thank you.
I think other than to say it would good if Mayor Street rescinded his license to the building trades group to continue their discrimination. I don't know what the press release means, but I'm hoping that there is some progress along the way. Like Councilman Ortiz, I suspect that announcement and will have no meaning at all. Thank you, Madam President.
Thank you. Are there any other speeches on the part of the Majority? (No response.)
Seeing none, the Chair recognizes Councilwoman Tasco for a motion.
