Council President Johnson

Thank you very much. Chair recognizes Member Lozada.

Councilwoman Lozada

Thank you, Council President. First, I'd like to thank Minority Leader Brooks for joining me today introducing the bill or the resolution that recognizes Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This month reminds us that ending abuse is a shared commitment and responsibility of ensuring no 8 survivor has to face these challenges alone. In partnership with the City of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Domestic Violence Collaborative, comprised of Congreso de Latinos Unidos, Lutheran Settlement House, Women in Transition and Women Against Abuse, provides critical domestic violence services, including operating the Philadelphia Domestic Violence Hotline, which offers confidential 24-hour crisis intervention and connection to essential community resources. Women Against Abuse reaches more than 10,000 people each year through the Philadelphia Domestic Violence Collaborative and the city's Office of Domestic Violence Strategies, community organizations and government agencies collaborate through a Shared Safety Philadelphia to strengthen prevention, improve access to services and coordinate services, support services to those impacted by domestic violence. Every survivor deserves to be heard, respected and supported regardless of language, immigration status, gender identity, sexual orientation or financial circumstances and must be empowered to make decisions about their own safety and their future. To every victim, you are not alone. You're not alone. There are resources out there. All you need to do is make a phone call. I want to thank every single organization, whether large or small, doing the grassroots work out there to ensure that all of our families are safe and that they're connected to the necessary resources. Thank you, Council President.
