This bill having been read on two different days, the question now is, shall the bill pass finally? The clerk will call the roll.
Yes, Councilman Cohen, do you wish to be recognized?
I would like to move to table it for one week. (No second.)
There's been no second, Councilman. Is there a second? (Duly seconded.)
Madam President, just a point of information. Can you provide just SECOND READING - BILL 980303 a clarification from the Chair as to the nature of the motion so that the Members are clear about the motion and what the particular vote means?
It's a motion to table the bill for one week. That means that it cannot be voted -
It's a motion to table for one week, and those voting aye are voting to table the bill and not take a vote on it today. It's only a motion for today.
For one week. The bill would still remain on the calendar and could be called up next week, and there's no debate on the motion.
Thank you. Councilman Nutter, did you want to be recognized?
No, I just wanted SECOND READING - BILL 980303 to make sure that the clarification was clear as to what the nature of the motion was. I'll be voting against that particular motion, as the sponsor of that bill. We had extensive discussion about this in the caucus this morning, and I'd certainly appreciate continued support of the measure. I think that a delay is inappropriate at this particular moment. The Councilman and I have had a lot of discussion about the nature of that and the timing issues involved, and I appreciate and respect his particular views on this.
It sounds to me, Councilman Nutter, that you're debating the issue.
I wouldn't debate the issue, Councilman. I understand that. If the Councilman would like to engage in a debate about whether we're having a debate, I would love to do that with him.
The clerk SECOND READING - BILL 980303 will please call the roll. Those voting aye will be voting to table.
I'm sorry. I have Councilwoman Blackwell as voting aye, Councilwoman Clark and Councilman Cohen. So it's 3. Okay the clerk will please read the title of Bill No. -- where are we?
