The Chair recognizes Councilmember Jamie Gauthier.
Thank you, Council President. I just wanted to say briefly that this was a tough one for me. I've been hearing from a lot of our nonprofit partners who are essentially extensions of the City's work in communities. I am going to vote aye today, but I'm doing so because I'm trusting in our Majority Leader to really use this next year to bring non-profits together, to bring all the relevant City partners together to make sure that this is something that can work and doesn't do harm. And with that, I want to register my vote as aye. Thank you.
You're welcome. 6/13/24 - STATED - 2ND READING
Councilmember Thomas was aye. Councilmember Jones was aye. Councilmember Landau.
Thank you. I too look forward to working with you in this process to make contracting with the City better, but today I'm a nay.
Thank you. I heard from some constituents today regarding this legislation, and we want to make sure that the City essentially is 6/13/24 - STATED - 2ND READING held accountable to its residents in this contracting process. We all know there have been some mishaps with some nonprofit vendors and we want to get it right. And in support of our Majority Leader, I think this is a a step to get it right. I do hope and I will be working with our Majority Leader to make sure that this legislation essentially can get improved, to make sure that our vendors are getting paid in a timely manner because six months to get paid for a nonprofit is something that can essentially put them out of business for some of our smaller providers. I do look forward to working with again the Majority Leader on this legislation. And with that, I'm going to vote aye on this legislation.
