Councilman Phillips

I gave the Commissioner from September 24th. Now, it's October 16th and he has still not addressed this issue in the East Oak Lane, Olney area of Philadelphia. That is not clean or green and it tells me everything that I need to know about the lack of efficiency of the Philadelphia Water Department. to know that there's something about bureaucracy that just gets me riled up, and the Philadelphia Water Department is a poor example of leadership and it needs to be addressed. I'm not going to let this one go. It is not going to be okay. They have to fix this issue because our neighbors in East Oak Lane and Olney should not be crying and yelling about an issue that they have to deal with since July, since July. It's unacceptable. And when I called him the other day, he said, oh, I'm going to go check it out. What do you mean you're checking it out just now? Get to it. It's unacceptable. I do not like people who do not think outside of the box and to get things done. Thank you, Council )

Council President Johnson

Shh, y'all in here making all that noise. Good job, Member Dr. Phillips. But could the press, could y'all respect the body and keep it down a little bit? We know y'all control the narrative, but we still got business to do. Very well said, sir. Hopefully, they'll cover it for you. The Water Department Commissioner, he's not doing his job in East Oak Lane and Olney. And maybe it's like 10 of y'all over there, can cover it and give Member Dr. Phillips some support. I want to take a moment to acknowledge the young man shadowing me today from Community College, Dajuan Wortham. Can we of applause. I think he did a good job. (Applause.)

Council President Johnson

And to all the students from Community College taking time off from their schedule today to see democracy in action. And I applaud them for making the choice to be at the right place at the right time because you don't have to be here. They can be somewhere else doing something else. I also want to take a moment to acknowledge the guest commentator for WURD today, Ms. Thera Martin. We thank you for covering City Council today. (Applause.)

Council President Johnson
